I was born in North Eastern Ohio, in 1982, to a very artistic family. My father Robert, is a composer and founder of the New Music Society . Gwyneth, my mother, is an amazing Violinist and Artist. My grandfather was a great painter as well. He never had any formal training, but was born with this natural ability that I both respected and admired. He and my mother were the two people who really taught me to draw.
Throughout my childhood my parents took me to several of the best museums in Europe and I was awed by the paintings and scupltures I saw. Some of the artists that I loved the most were Leonardo Da Vici, Caravaggio, Raphael, and Michelangelo. It was after seeing some of these wonderful artist's works that I learned words like Tenebrism, Chiaroscuro, and Trompe L'oeil. A couple years before I went to High School my father bought me my first set of oil paints.
My passion for art grew to an obsession by the time I was in high school. I had the opportunity to study painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, digital imaging, and jewelry design. Around this time I was also introduced to Fantasy Art by a book entitled, "Masters of Fantasy Art." I fell in love with the beautiful and fantastic images in that book. Especially, I noticed the amazing grasp these artists had for human anatomy.
In 2000, after graduating highschool I began a Bachelors in Fine Arts at Youngstown State University. There I not only furthered my education in painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, digital imaging, and jewelry design, but I also learned sculpture and printmaking. I enjoy all these subjects so much it would have been hard for me to pick a favorite. I soaked up any and all information I could get my hands on.
In the summer of 2004 I was married to Adam Dunn, a long-time friend, exceptional chef, and all-around great guy. He provides me with constant encouragement and support. We were blessed with a handsome baby boy in June of 2005, who we named Joshua.
In 2005 I also graduated from University. My senior show was a series of four mannequins painted and decorated as the four seasons. I liked painting the mannequins because it was a definate departure from painting on a canvas or paper. Also, my favorite subject manner is the human form and as body painting has been around throughout history, I believe that the mannequin is not such a strange step for painting.
My husband, son, and I moved to Colorado in the summer of 2007. I have worked as an art teacher for private students for three years and done a great deal of freelance art. I have done several professional cd covers, and commisioned drawings and paintings, for commercial and private use. Most recently, in 2010, we were again blessed by the arrival of my daughter Eva. My family is a constant inspiration to me and to the art I create. |
